This less than subtle portrayal of Ground Zero was taken approximately one month after the brutal attack. This photograph depicts the horror of destruction and the deeper underlying hatred against the United States.
The following two images were taken from exactly the same vantage point, at the same angle. The second photograph was taken in October, one month after the September 11 attack. Not only had New York completely changed, the whole world became a different place after these attacks.
Legend has it that when Buddha first came out of his palace, he saw poverty, sickness, old age, and death. He then understood that life is characterized by these conditions. These life events also present themselves in photography. The first image is of an old beggar in poverty-stricken modern India. The second image is of an Indonesian rice farmer whose face shows telltale signs of age and the effects of physical labor. The third image is an old woman who suffered from severe dementia and lost her memory shortly before her death.
